Job Description
A Labor and Delivery (L&D) Registered Nurse (RN) is a specialized nurse who cares for patients throughout the childbirth process, from labor and delivery to immediate postpartum recovery. They monitor vital signs, fetal heart rates, and contractions; administer medications including epidurals and oxytocin; assist during labor and delivery; and provide emotional and clinical support to both the patient and their family. L&D RNs are trained to respond quickly to obstetric emergencies such as fetal distress or postpartum hemorrhage and often assist in cesarean sections. With strong critical thinking and communication skills, they play a vital role in ensuring safe, compassionate, and effective care during one of the most important moments in a patient's life.
