Job Title: Registered Nurse

License: Registered Nurse License
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, EFM

Description:
A professional nurse is accountable for the care of a group of patients.
The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe, effective patient and family-centered care.
The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit.
The RN promotes personal development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and education.
The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members.
The RN is responsible for assessing, developing, implementing, and evaluating the plan of care.
The RN focuses on patient and family comfort, education, and satisfaction.
The RN applies his/her educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care.
The RN mentors and precepts staff as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
Assessment: Performs assessments and reassessments per policy and procedure or as warranted by patient condition.
The RN demonstrates the ability to make sound independent decisions.
Development & Implementation: Initiates, prioritizes, and implements the plan of care.
The RN collaborates with patient/family and interdisciplinary services.
The RN utilizes resources appropriately to support the needs of the organization, patient, and family.
Evaluation: Monitors and documents the response to clinical interventions.
Education: Facilitates, coordinates, provides, and evaluates education specific to patient and family needs.
The RN ensures the care provided is appropriate during the patient's stay and at discharge.
Leadership: Delegates tasks to licensed and non-licensed personnel.
The RN functions as a mentor and preceptor.
The RN demonstrates and encourages teamwork.
The RN identifies and communicates opportunities for improvement.
The RN participates in quality, safety, and service process improvement efforts.
The RN complies with regulatory standards.
The RN participates in governance and decision-making processes.
Patient Assessment: Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care.
The RN includes appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments.
The RN synthesizes assessment data into meaningful whole prior to communication to others.
The RN anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families.
The RN develops relationships with families to promote advocacy for the patient.
Planning: Collaborates with patients/families to prepare or update the plan of care.
The RN identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care.
The RN demonstrates the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems.
Research: The RN reads journals with applicable studies or articles.
The RN brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
