Shift: Day 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30)
Schedule: 36 Hours/Week, Every Other Weekend
Charting System: Epic
Float Required: Yes – within all areas of L&D and Mother-Baby/Postpartum department
Call Requirement: Not Required
Note: First-time travelers accepted. Strong 1 year experience accepted. NCC C-EFM certification required in hand at time of submission.

Position Overview:

The Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and newborn patients in a community hospital setting. The RN will support vaginal and cesarean deliveries, fetal monitoring, postpartum recovery, and newborn stabilization while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Job duties:

Provide direct nursing care for laboring, postpartum, antepartum, and newborn patients.
Perform fetal heart monitoring using external and internal fetal monitoring systems.
Assist with vaginal deliveries and circulate for cesarean sections.
Administer medications including Pitocin, Magnesium Sulfate, antihypertensives, prostaglandins, and terbutaline.
Perform sterile vaginal exams, obstetrical triage assessments, reflex/clonus checks, and NST testing.
Initiate and maintain IV therapy, infusion pumps, and blood product administration.
Provide postpartum assessments including fundus, lochia, incision, and perineal care.
Support neonatal stabilization, APGAR scoring, thermoregulation, cord care, and newborn assessments.
Educate patients and families on breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, newborn care, and discharge instructions.
Recognize and respond to obstetric emergencies including hemorrhage, shock, and abnormal fetal heart rate patterns.
Float between Labor & Delivery and Mother-Baby units as required.

Requirements:

Licensure: Active Maryland RN License or Compact RN License
Experience: Minimum 1 year Labor & Delivery RN experience required; 2 years preferred
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, STABLE, NCC C-EFM (required at submission), CPI, NIH
Other requirement: Experience with Epic preferred. Must be comfortable working in all areas of L&D/Mother-Baby, circulating C-sections, and caring for newborns. First-time travelers accepted.

Patient Ratios: 1:2 Days/Nights/Weekends
Patient Population: Neonates, Adolescents, Adults
Patient Diagnoses: Labor and delivery patients, postpartum recovery, cesarean section recovery, pregnancy-induced hypertension, postpartum hemorrhage, neonatal stabilization, obstetrical triage patients
Number of Beds: 4 LDR Beds, 1 OR, 2 Triage/Antepartum Rooms, 12 Mother-Baby Beds
Daily Census: Approximately 50–60 deliveries per month
