Clinical Nurse Coordinator Labor and Delivery

St. David's Medical Center, part of St. David's HealthCare, is a full-service hospital located in central Austin, specializing in neurology, cardiac services, and robotic surgery among other services. We are seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator for our Labor and Delivery unit, an experienced RN leader who will support our multidisciplinary team in delivering safe, high-quality obstetric and neonatal care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

As the Clinical Nurse Coordinator Labor and Delivery, you will coordinate and oversee daily clinical operations on the unit, acting as a clinical resource, preceptor, and role model for bedside nurses and support staff. You will assist with patient assignment, bed management, and throughput to ensure efficient use of resources while maintaining a strong focus on patient safety and satisfaction. You will collaborate closely with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and ancillary departments to support evidence-based care throughout the perinatal continuum, including high-risk antepartum, intrapartum, and immediate postpartum care.

In this role, you will provide direct patient care as needed, demonstrating advanced skills in labor assessment, fetal monitoring, induction and augmentation of labor, management of obstetric emergencies, operative deliveries, and immediate newborn stabilization. You will help ensure adherence to clinical protocols and regulatory requirements, participate in the development and implementation of care pathways, and support quality improvement initiatives aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal complications and enhancing patient experience. You will actively coach team members in best practices for labor support, pain management, patient and family education, and culturally sensitive, patient-centered care.

The Clinical Nurse Coordinator Labor and Delivery will partner with unit leadership to support staffing, scheduling, and workflow optimization, as well as participate in hiring, onboarding, and ongoing competency validation of nursing staff. You will provide real-time feedback and coaching at the bedside, contribute to performance evaluations with objective clinical input, and help identify training needs and opportunities for professional development. You will be expected to maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge in obstetric and neonatal nursing, actively participate in shared governance, and engage in educational activities, skills labs, and unit-based simulations. You will support compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, and national perinatal safety initiatives, including obstetric hemorrhage, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, and safe use of oxytocin. You will also assist with data collection for quality metrics, incident reviews, and root cause analyses, helping to translate findings into practical improvements in daily practice.
