. This role offers the opportunity to provide high-quality maternal and newborn care in a collaborative environment that follows
AWHONN staffing guidelines
and prioritizes patient safety, teamwork, and nurse support.
Unit Overview – Alternate Birthing Unit
L&D Beds:
5 OR Suites for C‑Sections:
2 Triage Beds:
1 Postpartum Beds:
3 single postpartum rooms 4 double postpartum rooms (used as single rooms; support person accommodated)
Birth Volume:
Census varies widely day to day Patient Population:
Labor, antepartum, postpartum, GYN surgical patients, neonates Staffing & Ratios
Follows
AWHONN Guidelines
1:1 active labor Up to 1:3 antepartum/triage/early labor 1:6 mother–baby
Charge Nurse Coverage:
24/7 (assumes assignment only when necessary) Support Staff:
1 surgical tech per shift PCT coverage based on census and acuity
Technology & Equipment
EFM System:
OBIX Respiratory Support (Neonatal):
CPAP & HFNC in nursery Occasional ventilator support while awaiting transport
Telemetry:
Not used on unit Schedule & Requirements
Shift Length:
12-hour shifts Shifts:
Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
Typically one consistent shift (non-rotating) Block scheduling accommodated Weekend Requirement:
Every other weekend
Days: Saturday/Sunday Nights: Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday

RN License:
Active Illinois license (or eligibility) Certifications:
BLS (AHA Healthcare Provider) ACLS NRP Fetal Monitoring competency every 2 years
Experience:
Minimum 1 year OB or Labor & Delivery experience required to submit 2 years L&D experience preferred Must be able to independently manage labor patients
Preferred Qualifications
Education:
BSN Hospital-based L&D experience Basic proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft applications Orientation & Dress Code
